The Bucktown gift gurus share the story behind their brand.
Founders Kate Hayes and Darcy Jusich
Company name?
Happy Cabbage
Who are the brains?
Kate Hayes and Darcy Jusich
Where are you located?
2150 W. Armitage in Bucktown, Chicago.
What’s your mission?
Happy Cabbage was founded on the belief that gifts can cement a life moment, memory, gesture, or point in time. Whether you love to give gifts and are out of time or ideas, or the thought is totally overwhelming, we are here to assist you. Our hope is that we can help you celebrate life’s biggest and smallest moments with a curated gift that will be loved, used, and remembered.
A Happy Cabbage gift
Tell us your origin story.
We became friends while working at a small experiential marketing agency on the west side of Chicago. We always knew we wanted to start a business together, and after many ideas, Happy Cabbage is the one that stuck!
Three words to describe your team?
Fun. Inventive. Purposeful.
Workplace/workspace/office essentials?
We always have a Maison Marie Louis candle burning, a great playlist, and some cold Champagne in the fridge. But honestly, bubble wrap and crinkle paper.
Best source of creative inspiration?
We find inspiration everywhere we look. Formerly, traveling and bopping around Chicago topped the list, but more recently, it’s following new and interesting social media accounts of emerging makers and artists. Reading magazines! Pinterest!
What were you looking for in a website?
We want to offer an extremely user-friendly and easily navigable site while maintaining a high-touch, curated experience.
What are your favorite features of your WOTW site?
Our favorite new feature of the website is the “This Week’s Favorites” callout on the home page. WOTW helped us make our website easier to navigate, and this feature allows people to shop our most timely gifts with one click from the home page.
What was your favorite part of the process?
Our favorite part of the process was our call with Kelsey and Mal. They walked us through some backend organization of our site that had been immensely confusing to us, and explained it in a way that was easy to understand and easy to execute. We also very much appreciate their eye for detail and design and it was nice to be able to ask them questions ranging from backend coding to lighting and font preference. They are a dream!
Where can people find you/your products?
Website: www.happycabbagegifts.co, social: @happycabbagegifts.
What are you hoping for in 2021?
We were so excited to find a home and studio in 2020 and have been very focused on growth. In 2021, we’re excited to have greater focus on refining our company and our offerings.
