How the Etsy strike can inspire users to take business matters into their own hands via Squarespace.
From April 11-18, creators, artisans and vendors across Etsy are striking, refusing to sell on the site in response to increased seller fees. While the company recorded record profits in 2020 and 2021, they’re raising seller fees from 5 percent to 6.5 percent, an increase of 30 percent. Not only that, the company is making other tweaks and changes that hurt sellers, including charging vendors who make under $10,000 a year 15 percent on any sales booked via an offsite ad.
Organizers have rallied Etsy sellers to go on a one-week strike, effectively showing Etsy that it’s time to make the platform more hospitable to sellers — but also sending many artisans scrambling to figure out how to sell their wares while also showing solidarity.
Fortunately, there’s a solution that can help sellers avoid Etsy — and all its fees — altogether: a Squarespace site.
Squarespace features simple and seamless e-commerce options, allowing you to take sales into your own hands and onto your own site. (Bye, Etsy!) Additionally, the site’s Instagram Shopping integration allows users to sell directly to those who are already scrolling by adding tags to social media posts. It’s an impossibly easy way to bring your products directly to an already engaged audience so they can buy your products with just a few quick clicks.
