What to send your WOTW developer for site inspiration

One of the great challenges of collaboration — in any project — is translating the vision in your head into something another human can’t see, but really needs to understand. For WOTW, that’s where site inspiration comes in. We ask our clients to send their developers sites and content that can help make their dream site a reality. And if clients don’t know what they want, sifting through site inspiration can help clients hone in on what they like best.

Here, developer Alex Lucke shares a few of her favorite places for clients to find site inspo.

“I love when a client thinks outside of the box. I firmly believe that inspiration comes from everywhere — especially everyday life. So when looking for inspiration, always venture away from your industry and medium. Just because you’re an agency doesn’t mean you should only look at agency websites. Look for any kind of website and pay attention to what you’re drawn to.

I also recommend exploring print, movies, art and anything else that elicits a reaction. The way I develop is all about a feeling, so I like to keep inspiration loose, organic and natural.

Here are a few places I find inspiration online:

Are.na

Pinterest

Internet Gems

Httpster

Typewolf

Made with Squarespace

And here’s where I find inspiration IRL:

My commute

Long walks

Film (I recently watched ‘Fire of Love’ and can’t stop thinking about it)

My community

Trying new things

All of that said, my ideal client is someone that is curious but able to articulate what they like and loosely explain why. Do you like minimalism because it matches your lifestyle? Do you like something more colorful because you want some extra joy in your life and brand?

Coming prepared with a vision but being flexible and fluid speaks to great branding and style. Every time I create a site it’s about collaboration, and I’m always grateful that clients trust me to translate their vision and entertain my interpretation during our time together.”
