Squarespace Fluid Engine Resources

Ready to dig in to Squarespace’s new web design editor? Here are a few experts who can help wrap your brain around it all. (We promise, it’s worth it.)

Elongated text stretching and saying Fluid Engine

If you have a Squarespace website, you’re probably aware that the company just launched Fluid Engine, a new built-in content editor for Squarespace 7.1 site sections that use blocks. Of course, learning a new system is going to take a little time, and it’s never fun to add more tasks to your to-do list — especially if web editing isn’t your forte.

But trust us: in this case, the juice is worth the squeeze.

Squarespace launched Fluid Engine as a way to tap what they call Unbreakable Creativity. Rather than a 12-column grid, the new drag-and-drop platform uses a 24-column grid, allowing for more control, more flexibility and more stand-out design opportunities. With Fluid Engine, you can layer and overlap blocks, create full-bleed content, add colors behind blocks, design mobile content separately, and much more.

Knowing practice makes perfect, we’re digging in and getting to know as much as we can about the new platform by applying it to new WOTW sites. But we’re also turning to our fellow Squarespace experts for information on the switch to Fluid Engine.

Here are a few resources you can tap as you work your way into your own level of Fluid Engine expertise.

Week of the Website

Here is our very own Week of the Website Fluid Engine tutorial, giving an overview of the new editor to our clients, potential clients and, well, anyone else who needs it.

(Bonus: we think the soothing narration and calm aesthetic can help alleviate any new-platform stress.)

Squarespace

Squarespace’s own support includes a succinct, less-than-two-minute tutorial that takes you through things like adding sections, dragging and dropping blocks, styling sections and setting the mobile layout.

If you’re frustrated or confused, this is a good place to start, as the Squarespace video does a great job of showcasing the next-level capabilities of Fluid Engine — and getting you excited to master the platform.

Will Myers

This Squarespace developer worked through the new content editor to create a super-detailed FAQ over on his blog, as well as a YouTube feature, both of which answer a ton of the most common questions about Fluid Engine.

Christy Price

One of our favorite Squarespace web designers, Christy Price, provides a super-helpful point-by-point Classic vs. Fluid Engine breakdown on her blog (one of our fave industry reads!), as well as a visual tutorial on her YouTube channel.

We know this isn’t easy. We totally get that it takes time to learn a new platform — and time is one of those things that is scarce as it is. So here, we leave you with a Squarespace Fluid Engine hype video, which will hopefully get you at least a little excited about all of the opportunities Fluid Engine offers.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed or excited (or a little of both!), reach out to WOTW. We can design you a next-level site that uses Fluid Engine or update your existing site with the new platform — AND provide detailed tutorials that can help you use it.

Rest assured, once you get the hang of the 24-column approach, those 12-column sites will be a distant memory.
