Monday Motivation: Irish Bands Playlist

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we present the Emerald Isle’s finest.

March can be tough. Spring hasn’t sprung, there’s the looming threat of a demoralizing late-season snowstorm, and you never seem to grab the right coat, no matter how many times you’ve checked your weather app.

Fortunately, there is a bright spot: St. Patrick’s Day. Though it’s a great opportunity to gather with friends and have a few too many pints of Guinness, it’s also a chance to take in music from the Emerald Isle.

While traditional jigs and reels are what first come to mind when you think of Irish music — complete with fiddles, flutes, and an occasional harp — Ireland is musically super-stacked, going well beyond U2 and into punk, blues, and dozens of other genres.

So to mark St. Patrick’s Day week, grab a pint or a bit o’ whiskey, and kick back with this eclectic playlist of Irish music, which includes old favorites, newer artists, and some traditional tracks.

Of course, this is just a sampling — and like any good playlist, it’s packed with nostalgia. But for a look at the country’s current music scene, check out the 50 Best Irish Music Acts Today from the Irish Times. There’s a lot happening on that little island.
