Onboarding: Mallory Ulaszek
The tools, tricks and tiny little details that keep our project managers on point.
Name: Mallory Ulaszek
Current residence: Chicago, IL, but mostly in my dreams.
How did you get into project management?
Since I was a child, I’ve had a way of directing and leading projects to fruition. You could say I have that natural knack for organizing and seeing things through to completion. I derive far too much pleasure from checking off to-do boxes.
Favorite WOTW project you’ve worked on and why?
This is HARD because I have been a part of so many over the last six years. I am going to stay diplomatic and say the WOTW site itself. Kelsey calls it her ‘magnum opus',’ with thousands of lines of code. It may not have been built in a week, but WOW am I proud of her.
Where do you work best?
In a secluded room, with classical music, and notifications turned off.
Workspace essentials?
Chopin or Pavarotti on the portable speaker or headphones, my dog Dexter, my MacBook Pro, the Cloud, RSVP pen and graph paper notebook, and a TON of water.
Can’t-live-without organizational tool?
Google Drive. I think I would perish without it.
Favorite part of the WOTW process?
Writing the processes and watching them get tweaked by our PMs with their ideas and feedback.
Best source of creative inspiration?
A walk outside, a trip to frankly anywhere at this point (I consider the grocery store a luxury), and playing with my dog.
Favorite shortcut or tip of the trade?
Canned emails, baby.
What are you binge-watching?
I say this to everyone: I admittedly am not a huge television binger, as I have a limited attention span — aka I get bored easily. I binge on walks outside, though. You’ll see me on a lot of walks outside when I need to ground myself and refocus.
Favorite meal?
My mom’s red sauce.
What are you hoping for in 2021?
I won’t even lie, getting drunk and dancing in a crowded bar.
